Find Your Dream Hybrid Electric Car

Hybrid cars were once though of as some kind of fad. We didn’t know if they would be around for long, how reliable they were or if they would be too expensive to maintain. Those questions have mostly been answered. Now we can easily discuss the advantages and disadvantages of hybrid vehicles. Here are a few.

Advantages

  • Savings. Of course, you’ll buy less gas when you drive a hybrid.
  • Environmental Protection. It’s still unclear exactly how well hybrids protect the environment, but they do help reduce carbon emissions into the atmosphere.
  • Safety. In some cases, having a hybrid is like having a backup engine.

Disadvantages

  • Maintenance Costs. This was the case in 2014, according to cars.com. Only 10 out of 30 hybrid cars were less expensive than gas vehicles to maintain during a 5-year test duration. This has the potential to change as hybrid maintenance becomes cheaper. See below for details.
  • Speed. Most hybrids aren’t particularly speedy. Try a Tesla for fuel economy and muscle.

Hybrids that Allow Maintenance Cost Savings (as of 2014)

  • Lexus CT 200h
  • Toyota Avalon Hybrid
  • Lincoln MKZ Hybrid
  • Audi Q5 Hybrid
  • Acura ILX Hybrid
  • Hyundai Sonata Hybrid
  • Lexus ES 300h
  • Toyota Camry Hybrid
  • Infiniti QX60 Hybrid
  • Honda Insight

Hybrid vehicles are still gaining momentum and becoming affordable. Tomorrow, they will be more efficient and cost effective than they are today. Meanwhile, fully electric vehicles and hydrogen fuel cell vehicles are making headlines as consumers give them a try.
