2008 Volvo XC90 Review The 2012 Volvo XC90 seven passenger luxury crossover SUV is offered in 2 models, the 3.2 and the sporty R-Design. Each model has 3 available trims including a Base, Premier Plus and Platinum. All models are equipped with a 3.2 liter inline 6-cylinder engine producing 240hp and 236lb-ft of torque. FWD comes standard and AWD is offered as an option. When equipped properly the Volvo XC90 has max towing capabilities of up to 5000lbs. Higher trims have optional packages allowing buyers to further customize an XC90 for individual tastes and requirements.

In J.D. Power’s initial quality study they gave the Volvo XC90 an overall quality score of 2 out of 5, with the XC90 scoring a 3 for body and interior quality, along with a 2.5 for powertrain quality both design and mechanical.

Analysis Of Safety Ratings And Features:

The Volvo XC90 scores exceptionally well for safety and is a 2012 IIHS Top Safety Pick. The XC90 comes with standard stability control, antilock brakes, front-seat and full length side curtain airbags, a child booster-seat built into the second row and more. Optional in all models is a blind-spot warning system.

The Volvo XC90 has a slightly lower starting price than competitor Acura MDX and is several thousand less than the Lexus RX350. The XC90 has a fuel economy rating of 16MPG City/23MPG Highway, with the MDX offering 16/21MPG and the RX350 with 18/25MPG. While the Volvo and Acura seat 7 and offer leather seats, the Lexus seats 5 and has cloth seating. The XC90 has a 240hp engine just behind the RX350 with a 270hp engine and the MDX at 300hp. Both the Volvo and Lexus take regular UL gas, but in the Acura premium UL is required.
