2008 Toyota Camry Solara Review The Solara is a sporty variant of the Camry which was released in 1999. It replaced the Camry coupe. A convertible version debuted for 2000. The second generation debuted in 2004. In 2007, the Solara received an interior and exterior styling update.

What is the Predicted Reliability:

J.D. Power and Associates gives the 2008 Camry Solara 3 stars for overall mechanical quality and 3.5 stars for design quality. The 1992-1996 Camry had issues with harsh shifting, hard starting, coolant and water leaks, suspension noise and trunk problems. It was recalled twice. The previous generation had issues with poor shifting, valve cover leaks, engine stalling and engine noise. It was recalled five times. Expect average to above average reliability. The standard warranty covers the vehicle for three years or 36,000 miles.


Analysis Of Safety Ratings And Features:

The Camry earned 5 stars in government crash tests. In IIHS tests, the Camry earned “Good” scores in front and side tests, and “Poor” in rear tests. Anti-lock brakes, brake assist, tire pressure monitoring, full side airbags and a driver-knee airbag come standard. Stability and traction control are available on V6 models.

The sporty Nissan Altima S costs a few hundred more and has about 20 more hp. The Ford Fusion S costs a couple thousand less and has slightly more hp. The Mitsubishi Galant costs about the same and has slightly more hp.
