2008 Saturn SKY Review
The Sky is a two-seat roadster that debuted in 2007. Based on the Pontiac Solstice, but featuring a differently tuned suspension, the Sky brings some much needed style to the Saturn lineup. A Red Line model is also available with a turbocharged engine.
The BuyingAdvice Team Says:
The Saturn SKY is this brand’s boldest effort yet. It offers tight handing, scintillating performance and sexy styling all in one package. But at its price, you can get more power and more features. But you’ll be hard pressed to find anything that looks as good.
What’s New For 2008:
What is the Predicted Reliability:
J.D. Power gives the Sky 2 stars for mechanical and design quality, and 4 stars for performance. Problems in the first year include turbo noise, hard starting, vehicle surge, engine misfires and troublesome shifting. It was recalled once for an out of spec seal that could cause fluid leaks. Expect average reliability. The basic warranty lasts three years or 36,000 miles.
Analysis Of Safety Ratings And Features:
The Sky earned 4 stars in government crash tests. IIHS data is not available. Anti-lock brakes and stability control are standard.
Pros and Cons:
Pros

Head-To-Head Competition:
The Mazda MX-5 MIATA Grand Touring costs a few hundred less, and adds leather seats, side airbags and a CD changer. The Pontiac Solstice GXP adds traction control and 130 more hp, but costs a couple grand more and lacks air conditioning. The MINI Cooper S convertible includes traction control, side airbags and about 40 more hp.
What Others Are Saying:
“Sky pilots will love the looks and handling but may chafe at the compromises.” – Car and Driver
“Some top-down enthusiasts will reject the Saturn in favor of something more delicate and tossable. But those willing to trade agility for ride comfort, quietness, and a more macho demeanor will find exactly what they’ve been looking for.” – The Truth About Cars
“The Saturn Sky is a nice cruiser. It looks cool and sporty and would be a good commuter car. It isn’t the best choice for tall drivers, however. And, as with any two-seat sports car, luggage space is at a premium.” – The New York Times
