2008 Pontiac G5 Review
The G5 is a compact coupe that debuted for 2007. It replaced the Sunfire, which was ended in 2005. It’s based on the same platform as the Chevrolet Cobalt, and has a sportier look and design.
The BuyingAdvice Team Says:
The Pontiac G5 is a more stylish alternative to the Chevrolet Cobalt. Other than that, there’s not much difference, other than a higher sticker price. It’s very tough to recommend it when there are vastly better alternatives in terms of performance and quality, some from GM itself.

Head-To-Head Competition:

What Others Are Saying:
“The Pontiac G5 Coupe reminds me of John Steinbeck’s classic novel ‘Of Mice and Men.’ Best-laid schemes aside, no car deserves more to be taken out to a field and shot in the back of the head. This brand-engineered blight bleeds bureaucratic bumbling.” – The Truth About Cars
“I like the G5. It’s good looking, well designed, and user-friendly — all the hallmarks of a great compact car. The fact that it’s only available as a coupe may limit its appeal, but it also adds to the car’s uniqueness.” – About.com
“If there were something really special, unique or distinctive about the Pontiac, I wouldn’t have any trouble recommending it. But there are at least a dozen competitors out there that are better, safer, more comfortable, cheaper — or all of the above. Even if you’re a GM loyalist, Chevy already has the Cobalt. So what’s the point of the G5?” – The Detroit News
