2007 Isuzu i-370 Review

2007 Isuzu i-370 Review The i-370 is a pickup truck that first debuted as the i-350 for 2006. Based on the Chevrolet Colorado, the i-370 is only available with a five-cylinder engine. Sales have been poor, and Isuzu is expected to leave the American market entirely.

The BuyingAdvice Team Says:

The Isuzu i-370 is essentially nothing more than a rebranded Colorado with a higher price tag. With these poor offerings from Isuzu, it’s no wonder they’re disappearing from the American market. If you’re shopping for a GM pickup truck anyway, this might be worth looking at if you want something a bit different. Otherwise, you could spend your money better elsewhere.

What’s New For 2007:

The i-370 replaces the i-350. The engine has been upgraded to a 3.7-L, 242-hp five-cylinder. A tire pressure monitor is now standard. The i-370 is available as a extended or crew cab, with the crew cab available with 4WD.

What is the Predicted Reliability:

J.D. Power data is not available. Problems include clogged fuel injectors, glass distortion, transmission slippage, oil pump leaks, noisy shifting, engine breakdown, and odors. It was recalled once in 2006 for brake lamp failure. Expect below average reliability. The basic warranty lasts for three years or 36,000 miles.

Analysis Of Safety Ratings And Features:

The i-370 earned 5 stars in government frontal crash tests, and 4.5 stars in side tests. The IIHS gave it a “Good” frontal score and “Marginal” rear score. Anti-lock brakes and a tire-pressure monitor come standard. Traction control and curtain airbags are optional.

Pros and Cons:

Pros
+ Nimble
+ Quiet
+ Unique brand

Cons
– Terrible reliability
– Few options
– Mediocre safety

Head-To-Head Competition:

The 2008 Chevrolet Colorado LT2 with a crew cab and 4WD costs $1,200 less. A Dodge Dakota with 4WD and a club cab costs $1,000 less and has more payload capacity, with about 30 less hp. The Nissan Frontier Nismo with a crew cab and 4WD includes traction control and a V6 engine but has less payload capacity.

What Others Are Saying:

“Personally, I like the i290. I think the engine is top-notch and I love the quiet ride at highway speed. It’s sensibly-sized, easy to drive and very maneuverable. And while I know it’s basically the same as a Chevy or a GMC, the elitist in me likes being one of only a handful of people driving a new truck with an Isuzu badge. But my inner realist usually wins out over my inner elitist, and my inner realist knows that as good as the Isuzu i290 may be, it simply isn’t the best way to spend your money.”About.com

“While Isuzu has all but disappeared from the American market, the two trucks it does offer, both rebadged Chevrolet and GMC trucks, are good compact pickups that can get the job done.”The Auto Channel

“These three compact pickups are essentially identical and come in a broad variety of body styles, wheelbase and cargo-bed lengths, and load ratings. The Colorado was by far the worst in a five-truck comparison-test, finishing miles behind the Honda Ridgeline and Nissan Frontier.”Car and Driver
