2008 Infiniti G37 Coupe Review
The G37 is a rear-wheel-drive sports coupe that debuts for 2008, replacing the G35 Coupe. The G37 is the latest in a long line of Infiniti coupes, dating back to the 1991 G20. The name was updated to correspond to the new 3.7 -L engine. The G35 replaced the G20 in 2003. The G35 was Motor Trend’s “Car of the Year” in 2003.
The BuyingAdvice Team Says:
The new Infiniti G37 Coupe is better in every way than its predecessor. Overall it’s a luxurious, reliable coupe with great handling and a modest price of entry. However, its performance isn’t as thrilling or connected as some other imports. But despite a few drawbacks, the G37 is a great choice for a sporty coupe.
What’s New For 2008:
What is the Predicted Reliability:
J.D. Power gives the G37 3.5 stars for mechanical and design quality, and 4.5 stars for performance. The last generation had issues with brake noise, cold start problems, slow shifting and AC belts. No recalls were issued. Expect above average reliability. The basic warranty lasts for four years or 50,000 miles.
Analysis Of Safety Ratings And Features:
Crash test scores are not available. Full side airbags, active head restraints, and stability and traction control come standard. The Technology Package adds adaptive headlights, and seatbelt pretensioners.

Head-To-Head Competition:
The Nissan 350Z Coupe Touring costs over a grand less and includes a CD changer, but lacks side airbags and has over 20 less hp. The BMW 3 Series 328i Coupe cost about a thousand more and has more room, but 100 less hp. The Acura TL, at roughly the same price, is front-wheel drive and has more interior space, but 70 less hp.
What Others Are Saying:
“After all these gripes, I still liked the G37 quite a bit…The G37 may inspire a measure of lust at first sight, but my ardor for it was tempered by the realities of its spec sheet.” – The New York Times
“The new G37 is certainly as good looking as the original, but offers a more refined experience … kind of like dating a 30-something compared to a 20-something. One should find the G37 to be an excellent daily driver and a fine occasional track-day car. With these character traits and a nearly identical MSRP, the all-new G37 should easily seduce enough buyers to remain the top seller in the segment. The 2008 G37 Coupe shares a family resemblance to the previous generation G35 Coupe. The newer, high-performance coupe betters the older model in almost every performance benchmark.” – The Auto Channel
“On the brief straights, however, the G37 didn’t feel quite as fast as the 335i, nor did its V-6 sound quite as melodic as the BMW’s twin-turbo straight six. As with the previous Gs, the five-speed automatic does a pretty good job of smoothing out some of the V-6’s coarseness inside the cabin, but the ratios are too widely spaced.” – Automobile Magazine
