2008 Honda Accord Review

2008 Honda Accord Review The Accord debuted as a compact car in 1976 and has became America’s second favorite car. No longer a compact, the Accord is now a full-size sedan that seems to grow larger with every iteration. The Special Edition Accord, which has been available on and off throughout its history, was last offered in 2002. The 2003 redesign made the American Accord even larger, while the international version stayed the same size. A brand new generation debuts this year. The Accord has not only been a commercial success, but a critical one as well, winning numerous awards over the years and appearing frequently on Car and Driver’s top ten list.

The BuyingAdvice Team Says:

What is the Predicted Reliability:

J.D. Power and Associates gives the Accord 4.5 stars for overall mechanical reliability, 5 stars for overall design quality, and 3 stars for overall performance and design. Problems with the 1998-2002 Accord include failing transmissions, brake light issues, oil leaks, and vehicle noise. It was recalled nine times. The last generation had issues with water leaks, defective moonroofs, misaligned timing belts, and deteriorating wiper systems. It was recalled three times for defective transmissions, tearing airbags, and loose fuse box terminals. Expect average to above-average reliability. The basic warranty lasts for three years or 36,000 miles.

Analysis Of Safety Ratings And Features:

Crash test scores are not available. Anti-lock brakes, full side airbags, and stability and traction control come standard.

Pros and Cons:

Pros
+ Sporty feel
+ Fuel efficient
+ Roomy

Cons
– More expensive than last year
– Some complicated controls
– Maybe a bit too big

Head-To-Head Competition:

The Accord’s main competition is the Toyota Camry, which starts at nearly $1,800 less. The Accord has about 20 more hp with no drop in fuel efficiency, but lacks the Camry’s standard power windows. However, the Accord includes stability control standard. The 2007 Chrysler Sebring Limited adds leather seats and a standard automatic, but costs $3,000 more and lacks traction control. The Subaru Legacy features standard AWD, but lacks traction control and gets four fewer miles to the gallon.

What Others Are Saying:

“The new Accord is large and in charge, but in seeking to provide a 5er for the masses Honda has forsaken much of the formula that earned the model its place in American automotive history.”The Truth About Cars

“The car offers the roominess they’d expect, and plenty of content. It’s peppy, reasonably fuel-efficient, and offers a wide range of safety features.”The Car Connection

“While a full comment on handling will have to wait for a week’s worth of test driving, it did seem as though the Accord kept its sporty flavor, which is something we love about them. A nice small steering wheel adds to the sporty touch. “MarketWatch
