2007 Dodge Caravan Cargo Van Review
The Caravan was the world’s very first minivan when it was introduced in 1983. Not only did it create the minivan market, but managed to stay on top for several years, and was voted Motor Trend’s “Car of the Year” in 1996. The current generation debuted in 2001. The CV version of the Caravan has configuration options that are fashioned to be more of a work vehicle.
The BuyingAdvice Team Says:
The Dodge Caravan Cargo Van is a dwarf when compared to its contemporaries. It has a poor reliability record, a weak engine, and worst of all, a fraction of the cargo room. The passenger model’s strongest point, its low price, is completely out of the picture here, as the cargo van costs nearly the same as its competitors.
What’s New For 2007:
What is the Predicted Reliability:
J.D. Power gives the Caravan 2.5 stars for overall mechanical quality. Problems with the last generation include shuddering transmissions, faulty ABS, inaccurate instruments, overheating engines, rough idling, and vehicle noise. It was recalled sixteen times between 1996 and 2000. Problems with the current generation include failing AC, loose weather strips, engine stalling, inaccurate fuel gauges, suspension noise, and water leaks. It’s been recalled ten times since 2001. Expect below average reliability. The basic warranty lasts for three years or 36,000 miles.
Analysis Of Safety Ratings And Features:
The Caravan earned 5 stars in government frontal tests and 4.5 stars in side tests. IIHS results are not available. Anti-lock brakes are optional on the SXT. A driver’s side knee airbag is standard, but side curtain airbags are optional.
Pros and Cons:
Pros

Head-To-Head Competition:

The Chevrolet Express Cargo Van has a larger engine, but costs nearly $2,000 more and lacks a CD player.
What Others Are Saying:
“The Caravan and Grand Caravan continue to hone the minivan formula they created over two decades ago, offering comfortable, safe family transport with innovations to enhance the journey and adapt to daily transportation needs.” – Automobile Magazine
“Decidedly unflashy, Caravan simply gets a lot of people and their stuff to where they’re going. It may not have the panache, but it’s got practicality down pat.” – Canadian Driver
“The Dodge Caravan earned a “Best Buy” award from Consumers Guide for being best in its class each year since 2000. While I’ve not driven all the competitors in this class I’ve driven a good number of them. There are some that handle a bit more crisply, some with more power, and some more stylish in design, but overall, I think the Best Buy award is well earned by Caravan – utility, comfort and luxury are admirable.” – The Auto Channel
