2007 Cadillac DTS Review
The luxurious DTS (An acronym for DeVille Touring Sedan) debuted in 2006 as a replacement for the DeVille. The DTS, along with the CTS and STS is part of Cadillac’s revitalized lineup, and features all-new signature styling. But despite being all-new, the DTS carries on in the tradition of the DeVille, coming complete with all the luxuries and amenities you would expect from a luxury car. A modified DTS served as the presidential limousine for the 2005 inauguration.
The BuyingAdvice Team Says:
The Cadillac DTS is an extraordinarily stylish update to the DeVille, and despite its high price tag, presents a good value over competing luxury models. It’s standard V8 engine makes it ideal for anyone looking for luxury who doesn’t want to sacrifice power. This isn’t your grandpa’s Cadillac.
What’s New For 2007:
What is the Predicted Reliability:
The DTS is too new for long-term reliability to be assessed. However, it earned a perfect five stars from J.D. Power’s initial reliability survey. Overall driver experiences have been satisfactory. The DTS was recalled once in 2006 for crimped power steering hoses. Expect above average reliability. The basic warranty lasts for five years or 50,000 miles.
Analysis Of Safety Ratings And Features:
The DTS earned four and a half out of five stars in government frontal crash tests, and four stars in side tests. The IIHS gave it its best “Good” rating for front impacts, “Acceptable” for side impacts, and its worst “Poor” for rear collisions. All trims come with standard anti-lock brakes and side airbags. Stability control is standard on all but the base trim.
Pros and Cons:
Pros
+ Beefy engine
+ Comfortable ride
+ Good value for the money
Cons
– Unknown long-term reliability
– Some questionable interior materials
– Mediocre gas mileage
Head-To-Head Competition:
Overall, the DTS offers better value than many of its “big-name” competitors. The DTS is $2,000 less than the BMW 5 Series 525i, and comes with a larger, eight-cylinder engine, leather seats, and more cargo capacity. However, the BMW comes with a standard sunroof. The DTS also costs $6,000 less than the Jaguar S-Type, while offering a bigger, more powerful engine, and more cargo capacity. It also costs $4,000 less than the Acura RL, while providing a bigger engine and more cargo capacity.
What Others Are Saying:
“The traditional Cadillac customer will be very happy with the new DTS. It has all the attributes that made the DeVille the favorite with the baby boomer’s parents, then later with the baby boomers themselves.” – The Family Car
” Old-school, sinister, comfortable and sexy. Why can’t Detroit build more cars like this?” – Forbes
“The Cadillac DTS improves on the DeVille it replaces with a more contemporary look and improved suspension but is held back by some lack of attention to detail and a 10-year-old power train.” – C|Net
