2007 Buick Rendezvous Review

2007 Buick Rendezvous Review The Rendezvous is Buick’s first SUV. Debuting for 2002, the Rendezvous was a big hit for Buick, drawing in a brand-new generation of buyers. In 2003, a DVD player and XM radio were made available. The Ultra trim level was introduced in 2004 as a top of the line model. From 2005 onward, the Ultra could come equipped with front-wheel drive. The Rendezvous is being replaced by the new Buick Enclave.

The BuyingAdvice Team Says:

For their first SUV, the Buick Rendezvous did a good job of combining SUV roominess with Buick comfort. Unfortunately, its lack of stability control really shows its age. Even more unfortunate is the fact that Buick has cannibalized the lineup, taking away all-wheel drive and a suitable engine. The 2007 Rendezvous was truly born to die.

What’s New For 2007:

The trim lineup has been reverted back to just the CX and CXL. All-wheel drive and the 3.6-L V6 is no longer available. However, anti-lock brakes are now standard.

What is the Predicted Reliability:

J.D. Power gives the Rendezvous 3.5 stars for overall mechanical and design quality. Problems affecting the early models include poor AC performance, leaking transmissions, coolant leaks, malfunctioning indicator lights, overheating engines, and steering problems. It was recalled for engine stalling in 2004. Expect above-average reliability. The basic warranty lasts for four years or 50,000 miles.

Analysis Of Safety Ratings And Features:

The Rendezvous earned 3.5 stars in government frontal crash tests and 5 stars in side tests. However, the driver door swung open during side tests. The IIHS gave the Rendezvous an “Acceptable” rating for frontal crashes and “Marginal” in rear tests. Anti-lock brakes are standard. Front side airbags and traction control are standard on the CXL but otherwise optional.

Pros and Cons:

Pros
+ Comfortable interior
+ Decent reliability
+ Reasonably priced

Cons
– Below-average safety
– Total lack of stability control
– Weak engine

Head-To-Head Competition:

The Honda Pilot costs over $4,000 more, but has 50 more hp, seats up to eight, and has standard stability control. The Hyundai Veracruz, at $3,000 more, offers a larger engine with 65 more hp, seats two more, and has standard stability control and 4WD. The Mitsubishi Outlander might just hit the sweet spot. Costing $4,000 less than the Rendezvous, it has 25 more hp, and standard stability control.

What Others Are Saying:

“I didn’t like the instrument panel on the Rendezvous and here was a bad surprise. The instruments were hard to read in daylight or when illuminated at night. They were too busy and the gray and green coloring wasn’t conducive to easy reading.”The Auto Channel

“In effect, Rendezvous combines the ideal attributes of both a wagon and minivan, then adds plush seats and an array of comfortable appointments so it comes off feeling like a car to drive but still looking like a slick wagon.” – CarTrackers.com

“Ride and handling are good overall, though the suspension is on the soft side, in keeping with Buick tradition.”Forbes
